My name is Jesper Eugén Damien Ian (yes, it spells out JEDI), and I am for the moment living in Stockholm, Sweden. I currently work for Gothenburg based coffee roasters Da Matteo, with customer relations, hands on training, social media etc. but can’t wait to get into roasting, cupping and brewing coffee. For me, coffee is both a fresh produce and a culture, a glue that binds people together.
I started my coffee career in Perth, Western Australia, where I found work through 5 Senses Coffee at Ristretto Espresso Specialists, then one of their customers. Later, Ristretto moved into roasting and sourcing our own beans, and I owe most of what I know today to Emanuele Muratore of Ristretto, by constant cupping and do hands on training with the Sunbeam coffee program etc. I’ve competed a few times in Australia, and last year in Sweden. Currently, I am looking at judging for two years in Sweden (and elsewhere if possible), then getting back to the competition! (To quote Dewey Cox; “Life’s a race, and I’m in it to win!”).
The name of the blog, No Heroes, comes from the understanding that all (well, most anyway) people are trying their best to be heroes, in what is best for the globe, the community and to all the hands that touches our coffee from seed to cup. But if everyone is a hero, then no one is a hero!? Which is good; if all people do good good things, no one needs to be a hero on his or her own!
